This is not the very simply made canoe model that you may have seen or see in some of the
local (Hawaiian) souvenirs shops but a model true to scale and built in the same way and with
same components as those canoes were carved and assembled until the mid 50th of the last century .This model is of the opelu type and like his name indicates was mostly used to fish Opelu. Long by 18 inches (45 cm) and with a height of 17.5 inches (44 cm) the model is supplied
together with the illustrated signature stand and bronze plaque.
Furthermore the model is equipped with 2 paddles and a fishing net.
The hull of this model has been carved out of curly Koa wood, the same wood ancient Hawaiian used for the construction of their various canoes.
To enhance the beauty of the model and give the impression of wind blowing open the sail
a type of veneer rather than cloth or other indigenous material has been used.
