Today, ask somebody about Hawaiian canoes and they will invariably refer to those colorful outriggers aligned along some Hawaiian beaches. But native Hawaiian used to build a range a different types of canoes each built and adapted to a specific purpose. The most prevalent of all those were the fishing canoes. Those were built in sizes ranging anything fron 12 feet to an eighteen footer and already during those old days, the bigger the more expensive.
