AUTHENTIC HAWAIIAN 6 Seater "Malia" outrigger

$2,250.00

Early Hawaiian racing canoes came in a very wide range of shapes, sizes and weights. The MALIA, which remains a prototype for
contemporary racing canoes, was among the first type of canoes built exclusively for the sport.

A six men canoe built in Kona, Hawaii, in 1934, the MALIA had a total length of 39' 3"1/2, a beam of 1' 8"1/4, a draft of 10" and a
hull weight of 400 Lbs.

Long by 20 inches, this scale model of the MALIA was built by Francis Pimmel of Oahu, the leading scale modeler of Oceanic
canoes in Hawaii and award winning artist, who works with remarkable precision to create the finest canoe models made in recent years.

The hull, outrigger booms and float of this canoe have been carved out of extremely beautiful Koa wood. The hereby illustrated model, together with its wooden base, display holders and bronze plaque with the name of the artist and name of canoe is the one you will get.

Additionally, 6 koa paddles are standing upright behind this "six-man" outrigger.

The base is built in such a way that it can accommodate a showcase.

Francis Pimmel's work has been featured nationwide by HGTV on their segment "MODERN MASTERS".
